As a Certified Full Member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, graduate from the Dance Program at York University, and as the Artistic Director and Owner of JCB Danceworks in Richmond Hill, Jacqueline Cook-Barber is passionate about dance.
Jacqueline began her dance training at the age of 4 in all disciplines, including jazz, tap and ballet. As her skills developed, she joined the studio’s competitive company and she participated in competitions throughout Ontario as both a group dancer and soloist. After graduation, Jacqueline studied ballet and modern dance at York University. She later joined a United Nations sponsored dance company and performed for the Canadian Armed Forces. She traveled to Europe and the Middle East in a Variety Show as both a dancer and internationally renowned choreographer. She also has experience in International Fashion,Trade and Cabaret Shows, Exhibitions and Corporate Events. |
Jacqueline’s true passion has always been to teach. Her first opportunity to build her own studio began when she opened JCB Danceworks over 25 years ago in Richmond Hill. She began with only a handful of students, but with her climbing success, great reputation and unique choreography style, the studio has grown to over 600 students. Jacqueline is well known in the dance community for her progressive and innovative style of choreography with exceptional skills in ballet, jazz, contemporary/lyrical, modern, tap and musical theatre. Jacqueline has received numerous awards for her choreography and she is one of the most sought after dance teachers/choreographers in Ontario. JCB Danceworks has earned the reputation of being one of the top studios in York Region and Southern Ontario. Jacqueline is currently in high demand as an adjudicator and teacher all across Canada. She is very busy choreographing and teaching at her studio, where she continues to provide children with a safe, supportive and creative environment in which to help them learn to find the dancer within. |
Tonya Frederiks-Steenson

Association
As an Associate Member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, a Member of the Royal Academy of Dance, and as the Artistic Director at JCB Danceworks, Tonya has made dance her passion.
Tonya began her dance training at the age of 3. She excelled rapidly in all disciplines, including jazz, tap, and lyrical. However, it was in ballet that her talents were exceptional, and she was accepted to the National Ballet of Canada at the age of 10. Tonya joined a competitive company and participated in competitions throughout Ontario as both a group dancer and soloist. After high school, Tonya danced professionally for several years. She participated in shows at Harbour Front, at Trade and Fashion Shows and she was also an Argo Sun Dancer.

After coming to a career crossroad, Tonya decided her heart was in teaching dance. She joined JCB Danceworks, where she has been one of the Artistic Directors and lead choreographers for the past 21 years. Tonya has gone on to teach dance workshops, intensive dance programs, productions, solos, and small and large groups of all ages and disciplines. Her choreography has won numerous prestigious awards at various dance competitions, including Best Choreography, Overall Highest Mark Awards, and various Special Awards, making her one of the most sought after teachers and choreographers in the industry.
Tonya currently adjudicates and is very busy choreographing dozens of dances. Her presence is inspiring to her students and her goal as a teacher is to be able to promote the joy of dance just as others have done for her. |
Nicole Cook-Barber

Nicole Barber began her dance training at the studio at the age of 3, studying ballet and jazz. As her skills developed, Nicole joined the Competition Company at JCB Danceworks where she performed and studied all dance disciplines including jazz, lyrical, tap, acro, musical theater, ballet and pointe. Throughout her high school years, Nicole participated in competitions as both a group dancer and soloist. Her competitive dance career allowed her to travel across North America winning numerous awards as a soloist. She graduated from Unionville High Schools Arts York Dance Program where she studied and developed a passion for both modern and ballet. Nicole is also a proud member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association and has been teaching students ranging from age 3 to 18 since 2001. In 2005 she began choreographing competitive dance routines, and has won numerous Choreography, High Score and Innovation in Dance awards. Nicole graduated from Ryerson University's Performance Dance Program in 2009, receiving

| a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Ryerson's program allowed her to study under and perform works by many renowned choreographers including Nadia Potts, Karen Duplisea, Christopher House, Robert Glumbek, Darryl Tracey, Allen Kaeja, Vicki St. Denys and Louis Leberge Cote. Nicole has been dancing professionally in and around Toronto and has been part of several industrial and TV shows, including music videos and MTV. Nicole was thrilled to perform as a modern dancer in the renowned David Earles remount of "Sacre Conversazione" in July 2009. Nicole was also a part of the CanAsian Film Festival where she worked with several incredible film makers, including David Hinton. Nicole is excited to keep sharing her passion for dance with her students, as well as expand her creativity and depth as a professional dancer. |

Faye Rauw
|
Faye Rauw hails from Humboldt, Saskatchewan; she has
traveled extensively around the world dancing professionally,
teaching workshops, performing for various dance companies
as well as performing for Royal Caribbean Cruise lines.
She is one of Canada’s high demand dance judges,
teachers and choreographers, traveling as far as Australia
to judge their National Dance Championships. Faye has
had the pleasure of working with the likes of Marlon
Wayans, Charo, Ben Vereen as well as Rob Marshall and
Catherine Zeta-Jones in the Oscar & Golden Globe
winning movie, “CHICAGO“. Her acting credits
have been seen on “MONK”, Walt Disney’s
“The Sixth Man” along with various commercials
and Canadian feature films. Faye has choreographed for
the NBA, AHL, KING DAVID The Musical, the stage tour
for CANADIAN THUNDER, the Canadian product launch for
Brittney Spears fragrance, CURIOUS, the recording artist
Kristine W. and was recently involved choreographing
for the Steve Nash Charity Classic. She is currently
an ambassador

for Lululemon, teaches at the Randolph Academy for the Performing
Arts and most recently started an entertainment company, Dance
Elements. Her passion to perform makes Faye an inspiration to
work with. |
Gay Bishop
|
Gay is a graduate of Ryerson Theatre School. She holds her teaching diploma with the RAD, is a full member of CDTA jazz and tap division, and an associate member of ISTD. Gay has been teaching ballet, jazz, tap and modern at various studios and dance institutes in Canada and the USA for over 20 years. Her students have been successful in both competition and ballet, tap and jazz exams. Many of these students have gone on to pursue successful careers in dance at post secondary institutions, as well as performing across Canada, USA, and Europe with numerous companies and cruise lines. Over the years, her students and routines have received many overall awards, as well as being recognized for outstanding choreography. Gay has enjoyed being a performing member and assisstant artistic director of two movement theatre companies in the USA, participating in numerous performances,galas and street festivals in New York and across New England. Over the past few years she has enjoyed teaching workshops and adjudicating for many competitions and pageants, but her greatest pleasure comes from watching the growth and successes of her students!

Kiera Punnett
|
Kiera began studying ballet at JCB Danceworks in 1994. She quickly fell in love with dance and was asked to join the Competitive Team in 1997. Kiera continued to be part of the JCB Company, competing in all disciplines including ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical and musical theatre. She performed as a group member and as part of several trios and duets. Her strong technical training allowed her to become a very successful soloist. She has successfully passed her C.D.T.A dance exams with Honours. Along with managing her technique and competitive classes, she also began teaching at JCB in 2002. Kiera graduated from Unionville High School's elite Arts York Dance program in 2008. Currently enrolled in the Ryerson University Bachelor of Fine Arts Performance Dance Program, she also continues to teach competitive classes at the studio. As well as teaching throughout the year, Kiera is also a counsellor at the JCB Creative Arts Camp during the summer months. Kiera is honoured to be a part of the JCB staff and looks forward to the new season.

Jessica
Campbell
|
Jessica Campbell started her dance training in Toronto, Ontario at the Claude Watson School for the Arts. After developing her talent further, Jessica was highly involved in the competitive dance scene with All That Dance - winning numerous awards including C.D.M.A. Teen Miss Dance 1997, and Canada's Dancer of the Year 2001. Jessica also took a special interest in ballet and completed her Advanced Royal Academy of Dancing examination with Honours. After spending summers training intensively in ballet and modern at the Banff Center for the Arts and graduating from the dance program at Earl Haig Secondary School as an Ontario Scholar, she decided to further her education in the States on a generous scholarship. Jessica graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Conservatory of Dance at State University of New York, Purchase College in May 2005. Upon graduating, Jessica spent the following two years working and performing with Forces of Nature Dance Theatre (contemporary company - New York, New York) and the Rebecca Davis Dance Company (contemporary ballet company - Philadelphia, PA). Jessica has traveled throughout the States as well as Canada both performing and teaching various styles, techniques and genres of dance to all ages and levels. Since returning back to Toronto in January 2007, Jessica has taught and choreographed at numerous schools in the Greater Toronto Area. She has worked with Collective Exchange, Solar Stage Children’s Theatre and Ballet Expressivo. She was overjoyed to join the talented team at OIP Dance Center in downtown Toronto in June 2007, and become part of the JCB Danceworks family in September 2007. Jessica is currently in the process of pursuing her dream of choreographing, performing and artistically directing her own company. As always, Jessica continues to learn and grow as an artist, and strives to share her knowledge and experience with others. |

Vanessa Cappello
|
Vanessa Cappello began her dance training at the age of three with JCB Danceworks and is very pleased to be a member of the JCB staff. Vanessa has studied many forms of dance as a former member of JCB’s competitive dance company such as ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, modern and musical theatre. Vanessa graduated from the Arts York Dance program at Unionville High School in 2004. She continued her training at York University in the Fine Arts Dance program, where she graduated cum laude in 2009. Vanessa also received her Bachelor of Education in the Concurrent Education program at York, where she combined her love for dance and teaching. As an emerging contemporary dance artist, Vanessa has performed in shows such as York Dances, Dance Illuminations, Vivid Variations, Stacked Crooked which was part of the 2007 Over the Top festival, Interlock, Alternative Fashion Week: FAT the Musical, as well as other independent shows in Toronto. Vanessa hopes to continue to combine her love for performing and teaching.

Stefanie Shalagan

the International Association of Dance Medicine and
Science
Stefanie began her dance training at a young age at
JCB Danceworks, and is happy to now be back "home"
as a teacher. In addition to dancing with the JCB competitive
company, Stefanie also graduated from the ArtsYork Dance
Program at Unionville High School. While pursuing her
degree at the University of Guelph, she was a part of
the team that revitalized the "Gryphon Dance Pak",
working as captain, choreographer and manager for four
years. Stefanie has worked as a teacher and choreographer
for recreational and competitive studios in the GTA
and Southwestern Ontario areas, and continues to enjoy
sharing her love and passion for dance with her students.
When not moonlighting as a dance instructor, Stefanie
is a Registered Dietitian with a Masters degree in Applied
Nutrition, who specializes in sports and performing
arts nutrition.

Danielle Gorman began her dance training at the age of 2 with JCB Danceworks, and is now excited to be part of the JCB Staff. Danielle was a member of the JCB Competitive Dance Company and has studied many forms of dance including, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Acrobatics, Musical Theater and Modern. She is also a graduate of the Arts York Dance program at Unionville High School. Danielle then studied and graduated with High Honours from the Seneca College at York University program for Radio Broadcasting and Communication Studies. Over the years she has had the opportunity to train and attend workshops with some of the top instructors of the National Ballet of Canada, including Frank Augustyn, as well as world-renowned choreographers such as Tyce Diorio and Brian Friedman, best known for their work on So You Think You Can Dance. She is excited to be able to share her love of dance by providing fun and challenging classes for the students of JCB Danceworks.

Nicole grew up in Coral Springs, Florida and began
her dancing career at age 7 training in all disciplines.
She immediately excelled and began performing across
the United States and Canada. She has taught workshops,
performed in numerous national conventions, competitions,
festivals, performances at Disney world, charity events
and sporting events for the Miami Dolphins. She has
also won extensive titles and scholarships including
First Place National Grand Champion with dance partner
Kameron Bink of “So You Think You Can Dance”.
Since her return to Toronto, Nicole has become a University
graduate in Sociology and Kinesiology and has been
a part of a dance company performing in weekly functions
including corporate, private and fundraising events.
Nicole is following her dreams by devoting herself
to teaching and sharing her vast knowledge gained
from her broad dance education. She has a great love
for performing and teaching which can be seen through
her unique style. Nicole is proud and excited to be
a part of the JCB team and looks forward to bringing
her creativity and passion to the dance floor.

Katie Robinson
|
Katie Robinson began her dance training with JCB Danceworks at 3˝ years of age. Katie was a member of the JCB Competitive Dance Company for 12 years studying ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and lyrical. Katie has taught the competitive team, led workshops and helped run the Summer Creative Arts Camp. She has been a teacher with JCB for the past 7 years and she currently teaches students in the recreational program on Saturday mornings. In 2009, Katie graduated with Honours from George Brown College in the Child and Youth Worker Program. She now brings her love and passion for dance to her clients by developing therapeutic dance and yoga programs. She is committed to an environment that is fun, safe, and creative for her dance students. Katie is honoured to be a part of the JCB staff and looks forward to another year with JCB Danceworks!

Sari Wolfe
|
Sari has been with the Danceworks family since its inception in 1984. It is her exceptional organization and hospitality
that keeps the studio ticking. She is always available
to both students and parents manning the front desk
where she’s available for any questions that may
come up. Her supervision of the students while they
are taking classes makes JCB a safe and friendly environment.

Suzanne Gorman
|
Suzanne has been involved with JCB for over 10 years
both as a dancer’s mom and as a staff member.
It is with her extraordinary skills that she co-ordinates
over 1000 costumes to outfit our dancers at the year
end recital as well as for the Competitive Company.
Suzanne can be found around the studio year round outfitting
our dancers in their JCB dance wear as well as supporting
many of the administrative duties. Her professional
approach makes her an asset to the JCB staff.

Brenda Hillaby

When her daughter, Kiera, began dancing at JCB Danceworks in 1994, Brenda was impressed by the superior quality of dance instruction and the warm family atmosphere in the studio. When Kiera joined the Competitive Company in 1997, Brenda's involvement in JCB increased and she began utilizing her skills as an elementary school teacher and her interest in the arts as an Administrative Assistant for JCB. She is pleased to be able to be part of the JCB team and is looking forward to continuing her wide range of duties, including coordinating JCB Dance Birthday Parties.

Amanda Telford
|
Amanda has been a member of the JCB Danceworks family since the studio’s opening in 1984. She began as a student, taking classes in ballet, jazz and tap and then shared her passion for dance as a member of the teaching staff while continuing to train with Jacquie and Tonya. After eleven years, Amanda left JCB to pursue her education at Wilfrid Laurier University, receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree and then went onto Teacher’s College at Lakehead University. Amanda is a full time teacher with the York Region District School Board but moonlights as a member of the Administrative team at JCB. She enjoys sharing her love for dance with the students and parents who walk through the doors of the studio.

Brittney Sourlis
|
Dancing has been a part of Brittney’s life since the age of 4 when she took tap and ballet classes. By the time she was eight years old, she decided to take her interest in dancing to the next level, when she became part of the JCB Danceworks Competitive Team. She started studying several forms of dance including jazz, lyrical, modern, hip hop, ballet, pointe, and musical theatre. After she received her diploma from Alexander Mackenzie Secondary School, she studied and graduated from the George Brown College Dance Performance Preparation Program with flying colours. Brittney has also successfully completed the Canadian Dance Teachers Association exams; passing all of them with Honours. Brittney has been a dedicated teacher at J.C.B. since 2002, and she teaches a variety of dance disciplines throughout the year. Brittney has been a member of the C.D.T.A. since 2005. She believes in team work, hard work and encouraging everyone to have fun as they learn to love dance. Brittney always looks forward to the challenges and successes that the new dance season will bring.
